The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by the President, Roger Fitchett at the Crossroads Inn, South Hill, Virginia.
Roger Fitchett welcomed George Lewis and David Dehart from Region 5.
A motion by Region 3, seconded by Region 10 that the June 10, 2007 minutes be approved. This Motion PASSED with unanimous voice vote.
A motion by Region 3, seconded by Region 10 to approve the treasurer’s report. This Motion PASSED by unanimous voice vote.
A motion by Region 10, seconded by Region 6 to approve the boat raffle report. This Motion PASSED by unanimous voice vote.
Roger Fitchett gave George Lewis the floor to explain the reason for them being present.
George Lewis was there to represent three members from his region that has a handicap problem. It would keep them from fishing the Fall Classic if they could not trailer their boats. At the weigh in site there is no beach area only a dock. With their problems it would be impossible for them to get out of the boat to come to the weigh in area.
Roger assured them that the tournament committee would make an exception for them and they could trailer their boats. This would be announced at the pairings meeting.
Tim Mick attended the Junior World Championship in Hot Spring, Arkansas. Stuart Smith, Jr. from Chester placed 8th overall in the Nation and 2nd in the Mid-Atlantic Division. The younger age group was Cody Griffey from Carrollton.
The name on the new casting program is Reel Kids.
The youth TBF dues are going to be $7.00 instead of $5.00. There is a premium packet offered for the youth of $25.00. This will include the TBF dues, FLW subscription, FLW decal, hat and a bag of fishing lures.
Virginia is ranked number two in the nation for youth.
A youth club must be connected to an adult club so that there will be enough boats. There will only be two kids to a boat.
The junior clubs roster will go from January to December 31st.
The Junior Six Man will be held on Lake Chesdin September 30, 2007 out of Whippernock Marina, Region 6 will host this event.
Raffle tickets maybe sold by the youth but an adult must be present. The youth clubs will receive fifty cents per ticket like the adult clubs.
Mike Gunn is presently working on a youth website that will have a link to the Virginia Bass Federation website.
Tim wanted to thank everyone that helped with the Special Olympic event.
At this time there are one hundred twenty two youth members.
Region 10 now has a Youth Coordinator.
Anyone that is going to have a casting event please contact Tim by September 1, 2007.
Sponsors that are in the Tight Lines will be put in the bulk mailing due to the cost.
Articles for the winter issue of Tight Lines are due November 2, 2007.
Directors are to take back to their members about putting Tight Lines on the website instead of mailing it out.
A suggestion was made to mail Tight Lines out twice a year.
The raffle tickets were distributed to the region director.
A motion by Region 7, seconded by the Vice President that Region 6 & 7 work the Mac Events boat show at the conference center in Richmond January 11-13, 2008. This Motion PASSED by unanimous voice vote.
A motion by Region 7, seconded by the Vice President to attend the Richmond Fishing Expo (formerly Bassarama) January 25-27, 2008. This Motion PASSED by unanimous voice vote.
A motion by Region 3, seconded by Region 9 that Region 3 gets twenty five cents a ticket that is sold at the Richmond Fishing Expo (formerly Bassarama). This Motion PASSED by unanimous voice vote.
The region directors are to take back to their members about having a silent auction or any other ideas for the raffle boat.
This will be tabled until the November board meeting.
A motion by Region 10, seconded by Region 2 to proceed with the changes to the tax status from a 501 (c) 4 to a 501 (c) 3 with the cost not to exceed $500.00. This Motion PASSED by unanimous voice vote.
A motion by Region 10, seconded by Region 2 to give Connie Palmore a gift certificate to Red Lobster for $100.00. This Motion PASSED by unanimous voice vote
A motion was made by Region 7, seconded by Region 9 to move the August Children’s Miracle Network tournament to North Landing River at Mundin Point State Park. This Motion PASSED by unanimous voice vote.
The 2008 schedule of events was discussed.
Region 1 & 9 will provide help at the Children’s Miracle Network tournament on Potomac River, August 25, 2007.
A packet for the Fall Classic was given to the region directors by Region 3.
A discussion of moving the Children’s Miracle Network tournament in October to Claytor Lake. This was tabled until the November board meeting.
The floor was open for nomination for President.
Region 3 nominated Roger Fitchett.
The floor was open for nomination for Vice President.
Region 3 nominated Charlie Beale.
TBF announced to the presidents at the FLW Championship that they lost $100,000.00 because rosters were turned in late or no FLW number.
Roster that are not complete that includes FLW numbers will be returned to the clubs.
A motion by Region 9, seconded by Region 6 that a $200.00 donation is made to the
Sportsman Award Fund. This Motion PASSED by unanimous voice vote.
A suggestion from Region 6 that the two Chapter Team tournaments be combined.
Region 8 Director Ray Allen questioned Region 7 Director Craig Owens about not providing help at the Junior 6 Man tournament, April 14, 2007 that Region 7 Youth Coordinator said they would host. According to Ray some of Region 7 members said they knew nothing of the tournament and that no Region 7 tournament was schedule as quoted by Craig.
Craig said he did not have the answers but would have them at the November board meeting.
Ray asked Craig what his intention were as far as the Virginia Bass Federation.
Region 10 wanted to know if any region was interested in opening their region tournament to other regions.
Charlie Beale told the board that 2008 would be his last year to except nomination as Vice President.
Roger Fitchett also told the board that 2008 would be his last year to except nomination as President.
Just a reminder, that this is the year for election of directors in odd regions.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 3:00 p.m.
