The meeting was called to order at 9:00 A.M. by the President at the Best Western in South Hill, Virginia.

Roger Fitchett welcomed Dan Knight member of Princess Anne Bassmasters.

Motion by Region 7, seconded by Region 3 that the minutes of the July 14, 2002 board meeting be approved. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Motion by Region 3, seconded by Region 7 to approve the treasurer’s report. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Motion by Region 7, seconded by Region 5 to approve the boat raffle report.

Mitchell Perkins attended the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation meeting. At that meeting he was asked that the federation support the bond referenda for $119 million for State Parks and Natural Areas. On November, 5 the voters will have the opportunity to approve this bond. This will be carried back to the regions.

The reason for part of the New River being closed was because of 9/11. At this time that part of the river is open.

The pipeline that would carry waste from the sewage plant to the Pamkuney River has been stopped.

Zebra mussels have been found in quarries in Northern Virginia.

The Virginia Junior team finished 12th at the Junior National held in Delaware on July 13, 2002.

At the Farm and Home Show in Blacksburg, about 1,400 kids went through the Kids Corner.

A thank you goes to Cheryl Britton for helping with the Kids Corner in Blacksburg.

A Castings Kids contest was held by Nation’s Capital Federation with the help of John Britton.

A donation of $300.00 was made to the Virginia B.A.S.S. Federation from Nation’s Capital Federation for the help with the Castings Kids contest.

There is a new junior club, the Shenandoah Junior Club.

Nominations for Youth awards will be done in November.

Virginia will host the Junior Invitational Championship July 10-11, 2003.

The Tight Lines will be mailed out the end of September.

Joan Blankenship has agreed to do the winter issue of Tight Lines.

This will be Joan’s last issue. Anyone interested in being Tight Lines editor contact Roger Fitchett.

Joan wanted to thank Charlie and Brenda for their help with Tight Lines.

The deadline for regional articles is November 15, 2002. These articles are to be sent to Charlie Beale.

B.A.S.S. has decided to eliminate the State Federation Awards. This program will continue for the clubs.

The resolution for pairings was discussed but more changes were needed. Russ Shetley will bring the changes to the November board meeting.

None of the regions were interested in the "Adopt a Boat Ramp" program.

The proposal to change the state qualifying tournaments to Friday and Saturday was rejected.

A new federation has been formed in D.C. In 2003 Nation’s Capital B.A.S.S. Federation will become part of the Eastern Division.

The floor was open for nominations for President.

Motion by Region 7, seconded by Region 1 to nominated Roger Fitchett.

Motion by Region 7, seconded by Region 3 to close nominations.

The floor was open for nominations for Vice President.

Motion by Region 7, seconded by Region 6 to nominated Charlie Beale.

Motion by Region 7, seconded by Region 5 to close nominations.

Ed Clayton the hosting region director passed out information on the Fall Classic on Smith Mountain Lake.

The 2003 schedule of events was given to each director.

Motion by Region 7, seconded by Region 1 to move the Chickahominy River Children’s Miracle Network tournament to Buggs Island. Motion passed by unanimous voice vote.

Motion by Region 3, seconded by Region 7 to leave the Children’s Miracle Network tournament on the Potomac River. Motion passed by unanimous voice vote.

Motion by Region 3, seconded by Region 1 that the Children’s Miracle Network Classic tournament be held on Buggs Island. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

The Federation proposal to B.A.S.S. for a one day event in every state tied to the Citgo opens did not get finalized. More information will be provided at a later date.

The Virginia/Carolina Bass & Boat show will be held in South Hill, February 7-9, 2003. This will be discussed at the November board meeting as to whether the federation would like to put the raffle boat in the show and sell tickets.

The FLW, Jacob’s Cup and Outdoor Show will be in Richmond September 10-13, 2003. There will be booth space provided to display the raffle boat to sell tickets. Roger Fitchett asked Stuart Wood if he would find volunteers to help with the tournament. A decision will be made at the November board meeting if the federation will participate.

Quotes for the 2004 raffle boat will be discussed at the November board meeting.

B.A.S.S. is beginning a membership drive that will benefit the clubs and our federation. B.A.S.S. is offering a one year membership for new members only, for $10.00 Six dollars will go to the club or federation that sold it.

There was a discussion to sell ads on the front of the trailer for the youth program. The spaces will be 8x18 at a cost of $300 for one year. These ads will have a link to the federation web site.

Motion by Region 3, seconded by Region 1 to sell ad space on the front of the tournament trailer. Motion passed by unanimous voice vote.

It was the consensus of the board that Peter Herbst present a program at the November board meeting on selling ads on the web site.

West Landing Bassmasters was accepted as a new club in club in Region 7

Moneta Bassmasters was accepted as a new club in Region 2.

Motion by Region 3, seconded by Region 2 to adjourn the meeting. Meeting adjourned at 2:00 P.M.
