The meeting was called to order at 9:00 A.M. by the President at the Best Western in South Hill, Virginia.

Roger Fitchett welcomed Tim McCoy, Region 4 Assistant Director/Financial Advisor

Corrections to the March 17, 2002, John Britton’s name was left off the board list and his youth report was not included in the minutes.

Motion by S. Wood, seconded by S. Woodroof with the corrections that the minutes of the March 17, 2002 board meeting be approved. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Motion by W. Hayes, seconded by S. Wood to approve the treasurer’s report. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Motion by S. Woodroof, seconded by R. Shetley to approve the raffle account. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Joan Blankenship apologized to Region 8 for their article being left out of the latest issue of Tight Lines.

Tim McCoy is checking into getting a Tight Lines editor and will report at the July board meeting.

The Virginia/North Carolina show did not have a good turn out. The show itself was great.

Russ Shetley will bring some ideas of how to raise money for the Junior Invitational at the July board meeting.

Anyone interested in helping at the Delaware Junior Invitational in July, contact John Britton.

An audit was done by Tim McCoy, when he receives additional information he will give an updated report.

The Virginia B.A.S.S. Federation won the Eastern Division in Community Service and Youth Award. The directors were given a letter from Abby Ryan listing the guide lines to use when submitting pictures or articles to her. Directors please pass this on to your members.

Motion by Region 6, seconded by Region 5 to pay the expenses of the ones that were over their budgeted amount. Motion passed by unanimous voice vote.

The budget was discussed and will be voted on at the July board meeting.

John Britton will submit a proposal at the July board meeting for a youth tournament trail.

Motion by Region 9, seconded by Region 3 to send a check to the South Hill Chamber of Commerce for $250.00 for the repair of the pontoon boat. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

The federation finally has the remote display for the weigh-in.

Dean Fowler from DGIF will be at the July board meeting to discuss a new program.

The Children’s Miracle Network tournament on the Chickahominy River only had twenty-eight boats participate.

The St. Jude tournament will be July 12, 2002 on the Potomac River.

The next Children’s Miracle Network tournament will be August 24, 2002 on the Potomac River.

Roger Fitchett received the contract back from Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce/Partnership for the Fall Classic. Region 4 will be the host region.

The board voted to give Ann Dalton, Secretary/Treasurer a salary increase.

Ed Clayton would like to go on record that he protests the decision of the disqualification of a club at Mr. Bass.

Motion by Region 5, seconded by Region 9 to refund the $70.00 entry fee to the club and monetary compensation of $150.00 for expenses and a letter of apology from Roger Fitchett per Glen Sparks request. Amended by Region 6 to refund the $70.00 entry fee and a letter of apologize.

Motion passed. The $70.00 entry fee will be refunded and a letter of apology from Roger Fitchett to Glen Sparks.

A By-law change will be submitted by Region 9 at the July board to make changes in the pairings rule.

At the Federation Championship Ray Tweedy placed eleventh overall and fourth in the Eastern Division.

Natural Bridge Bassmasters was accepted as a new club in Region 2.

Fish On Bassmasters was accepted as a new club in Region 4.

Valley Bassmasters will be moving from Region 2 to Region 9.

Charlie Beale asks that the directors push the sell of raffle tickets.

Motion by Region 3, seconded by Region 7 to adjourn the meeting. This meeting was adjourned at 2:45 P.M.

Youth Report

June 24, 2002

We have established our 4th Youth club, Marshall Junior Bass Anglers under Shenandoah Valley Bass Association in Region 9. We will have our 5th Youth Club will be established by the Shenandoah Valley Bass Association in the Winchester area.

The Youth Championship was held in April at the Mr. Bass tournament. Two teams showed up for the tournament, but with no luck (no fish caught).

The adult/youth tournament was held on May 25th in Farmville, there were 13 boats that participated. The tournament netted a profit of $140.00, this goes toward the Junior Federation.

The State Championship went to Orange High School with Bass Assassins taking 2nd place and Shenandoah Valley Bass Association ( now know as Marshall Junior Anglers) taking 3rd.

A discussion with the Youth Coordinators, the understanding we came to that the first weekend in June was a success. As soon as all the information is tallied I will have a better understanding of what we where able to accomplish as a whole.

Please remind everyone I need all the information pertaining to the Youth events.

An plaque was presented to Bob Sandridge for his devotion to the youth programs.

Junior Federation paper work was turned into B.A.S.S.

The first open youth tournament was held on the Potomac June 8th. With little time to advertise the tournament, we only had 13 boats. With a profit of $400.00 going towards the Junior Federation.

The paper work has been submitted to Delaware for our National Junior team. Six members and two alternates will go to the Nationals.

Virginia Tech is having a Farm Showcase in Blacksburg, September 5-7. With last year having 12,000 visitors and 135 exhibitors. They would like us to be a part of the show and help promote their event. The contact person is Deborah Cooper at 540-731-3112.

Our youth clubs are performing conservation events.

Information has been complied to start a scholarship fund.
