The meeting was called to order at 8:45 A.M. by the President at the Best Western in South Hill, Virginia.
Roger Fitchett welcomed Rick Wisswell, Representative of Region 7, Ron Southwick, Dean Fowler and Bob Greenlee from DGIF.
Dean Fowler discussed a potential program "Adopt a Boat Ramp." This program would be done on the same bases as "Adopt a Stream." If you need boat ramp listings or any other information contact Dean Fowler at 757-253-4170.
A continuing study of the Chickahominy River is being done by DGIF. Bob Greenlee reported that the problem may just be environmental.
Motion by Region 3, seconded by Region 2 that the minutes of June 23, 2002 board meeting be approved. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.
Motion by Region 4, seconded by Region 2 to approve the treasurer’s report. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.
Motion by Region 9, seconded by Region 2 to approve the raffle account. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.
Mitchell Perkins reported that the gas pipeline is not a done deal.
Mitchell Perkins has a meeting with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation July 19, 2002. Mitchell will report at the September board meeting about this meeting.
The Virginia Junior team finished 12th at the Junior National held in Delaware on July 13, 2002.
Proposal dates were submitted by John Britton for the youth tournaments. These will be discussed at the September board meeting.
Bob Sandridge passed away on July 11, 2002. Bob had been involved in youth activities for the past thirteen years. His funeral will be held July 15 in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
A motion by Region 3, seconded by Region 2 to make a $100.00 donation to the Bryan Kerschel fund in Bob Sandridge’s name. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.
Directors were instructed at their next region meeting to ask if anyone would be interested in helping with Tight Lines.
The deadline for regional articles is due August 5, 2002. These articles are to be sent to Charlie Beale. Charlie and Brenda will edit them and get them ready for the printer.
The resolution for pairings will be brought to the September board meeting by Russ Shetley.
Motion by Region 3, seconded by Region 2 to accept the 2002-2003 budget. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.
Charlie Beale got a call from Charles Holland, President of Top Gun Bassmasters asking that Glen Sparks be put on the July 14, 2002 board meeting agenda. Mr. Sparks never attended the meeting.
The St. Jude tournament was held July 12, 2002 on the Potomac River with 49 boats participating.
The next Children’s Miracle Network tournament will be held August 24, 2002 on the Potomac River.
The Fall Classic information is due at the September board meeting.
The Bassmasters Classic is July 22-27, 2002 in Birmingham, Alabama.
Motion by Region 3, seconded by Region 2 to purchase two 782V Touring Edition Motorguide trolling motors at the cost of $735.00 plus $50.00 shipping. These will be used for raffle purposes. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.
Motion by Region 3, seconded by Region 2 that permission be given to Roger Fitchett to go to Connecticut in advance to make arrangements for the state team if needed after he talks with the President from Connecticut at the Bassmasters Classic. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.
Any non boat owners choosing to use their boat during practice days in Connecticut during the tournament will be responsible for their own gas. A letter will be sent to the state team members explaining this.
A Federation proposal to B.A.S.S. for a one day event in every state tied to the Citgo opens was submitted. This has not been finalized, so more information will be provided at a later date.
Region 5 is having an open tournament August 8, 2002 at Buggs Island. For more information contact Joan Blankenship.
Region 5 submitted a suggestion that the Chapter Team tournaments, Mr. Bass tournament and the Fall Classic tournament be held on Friday and Saturday, instead of Saturday and Sunday. Directors are to take this back to their clubs.
Region 6 wanted to let Joan Blankenship know she did an excellent job on the last issue of Tight Lines.
Region 8 wanted to thank Roger for getting the information out quickly about the 50 amateur slots available for the tournament on the Potomac River.
Motion by Region 3, seconded by Region 2 to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote. This meeting was adjourned at 1:30 P.M.
