The meeting was called to order at 9:00 A.M by the President at the Best Western in South Hill, Virginia.

Roger Fitchett welcomed Ray Allen, Region 8 Assistant Director.

Correction to the March 19, 2001 minutes. Page two, paragraph seven the 2000 Club of the year should be Bassmasters of Big Island.

Motion by S. Robinson, seconded by S. Woodroof with the correction that the minutes of the March 18, 2001 board meeting be approved. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Motion by E. Clayton, seconded by S. Stephenson to approve the treasurer’s report. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Motion by S. Robinson, seconded by R. Shetley to approve the boat raffle report. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

Mitchell Perkins reported that Hanover County has run a sewage line from the water treatment plant that will dump into the Pamunkey River.

By an approval of the Corp of Engineers, Long Branch Creek will be filled and wetlands will be developed in another location.

The C.A.R.A. Act will be passed.

Mitchell Perkins was ask to check into a project that is taking place on Lake Frederick.

John Britton ask the directors to help in getting information from their Youth Coordinators about the youth events in their region.

A Youth Volunteer pin has been designed and purchased.

B.A.S.S. is encouraging each state federation to start Junior Chapters.

Motion by Region 7, seconded by Region 1 that the Virginia B.A.S.S. Federation not pay for food at Youth events.

Motion by Region 9, seconded by Region 1 that the Virginia B.A.S.S. Federation reimburse the regions that had submitted an expense voucher for food.

Motion by Region 3, seconded by Region 1 to reimburse Roger Fitchett $78.04 for expenses for Region 3 PALS tournament at Osborne Landing, June 2, 2001.

A bill will be submitted to Larry Elliott for reimbursement.

Abby Ryan reported that the Virginia B.A.S.S. Federation has won the Eastern Division Community Service Public Relations award from B.A.S.S. Federation. The Federation Awards Booklet is now being looked at for an overall award. This will be announced at the Bassmasters Classic.

Virginia is the hosting state for the East Division Championship September 22-29, 2001. Alton Vaughan is in charge of recruiting volunteers for this tournament.

The host region for the 2002 Mr. Bass is Region 3. The tournament will be held on the Chickahominy River, Powhatan Resort.

The remote display that was purchased in October, 2000 can not be programed with the weight indicator. After all the tournaments, Richmond Scales will take the weight indicator and try and find a remote display that will match.

A proposed budget was submitted and will be voted on at the July board meeting.

The Department of Game and Inland Fisheries has formed a largemouth bass committee. Roger Fitchett will be attending the meeting. Directors are to contact Roger Fitchett with any problems with the waters they fish before July 18, 2001.

The St. Jude charity tournament will be held on the Potomac River, July 13, 2001 out of Leesylvania State Park. The Virginia B.A.S.S. Federation will conduct the weigh in.

Motion by Region 9, seconded by Region 4 to increase the membership dues to $15.00 as the By-laws reads. Effective January 2002.

The board voted to give Ann Dalton, Secretary/Treasurer a salary increase.

The first Children’s Miracle Network tournament was held June 10, 2001 on the Chickahominy River. A check for $1,200.00 was presented to the Children’s Miracle Network.

The next Children’s Miracle Network tournament will be held August 25, 2001, Potomac River, Leesylvania State Park.

B.A.S.S., Inc. has been bought by ESPN.

Delco, Humminbird and Ranger are no longer B.A.S.S. sponsors.

New sponsors are Triton, Nitro and Skeeter boats as well as Mercury and Yamaha motors.

A federation cannot win a youth award unless they have a youth chapter.

Chevrolet is the namesake sponsor for the CastingKids events.

Any checks written to B.A.S.S. must be made payable to ESPN Production, Inc.-B.A.S.S.

Jessica Digman won the East Division CastingKids contest from Virginia in the age group 7-10 at the Federation Championship. Jessica will go on to the Bassmasters Classic to compete against four other divisions.

Motion by Region 5, seconded by Region 9 to match the $500 from B.A.S.S. for travel expenses to the Bassmasters Classic for the Digman’s if needed.

Hunters for the Hungry is writing a cookbook, anyone interested in submitting a fish recipe contact Roger Fitchett.

Bump-A-Stump Bassmasters was accepted as a new club in Region 3.

There is no e-mail address for Stuart Wood.

On July 14, 2001 Joan Holmes will be giving a seminar on fishing on Buggs Island Lake at the Amphitheater at North Bend Park at 8:30 P.M., everyone is invited.

Motion by S. Woodroof, seconded by S. Wood to adjourn the meeting. Meeting was adjourned at 2:30 P.M.
