Glamour Shad Builds Business on Performance The squeaking sound of Glamour Shad’s new buzzbait gliding low through the water isn’t the only buzz that owner Todd Davis is hearing these days. The other all-important buzz going around is that Glamour Shad spinnerbaits are producing big fish in this year’s tournaments. Todd’s spinnerbait helped catch a number of big fish at a recent Lake Anna tournament and produced the winner at a recent Region 7 tournament. What distinguishes the Glamour Shad Spinnerbaits? According to Todd, his spinnerbaits have a very realistic fish head with lifelike 3-D eyes and—most important—they run very true through the water. "You just won’t see a tilt or a wobble in the Glamour Shad spinnerbait even at slower speeds. It runs exceptionally straight and true," Todd said. |
Todd has sponsored the Virginia Bass Federation since last year, providing his specially designed baits as giveaways for federation prizes and promotions. He fishes in Region 8 and is a member of Tidewater Bassmasters.
"Tweaked to Perfection" is Glamour Shad Motto
Todd started his business in 1995, which started out as a hobby trying to perfect bait for his own fishing. That also explains the motto for Glamour Shad Spinnerbaits – "Tweaked to Perfection." It took him about a year to get the molds ready. He now has one full-time and one part-time employee to build the business and help meet demand.
Glamour Shad offers three blade styles and 10 skirt colors with heads painted to match the skirts in quarter ounce, 3/8 ounce, half ounce and three-quarter ounce sizes. They’re made with sampo ball bearing swivels, quality bright nickel and 24K gold blades and mustad needle power point hooks.
New this year is the Glamour Shad Buzzbait in quarter-ounce and 3/8 ounce sizes. The buzzbait are made in four colors, silver and gold and a few painted. For better action the wire is bent down to ride lower in the water. It moves nicely over structure.
Glamour Shad sold by dealers in 50 states
Glamour Shad has an impressive line up of pro staff including Mike Bailey, Richard Chattin, Bobby Kinsey, Mark Lindsey and Dustin Wilks. Dustin Wilks is currently in 16th place and is likely to be heading to the classic. Along with product information on the website www.glamourshad.com, you will find excellent fishing reports from these pro staff.
They have good things to say about Todd’s products too. Bobby Kinsey said, "Try a Glamour Shad Spinnerbait and I promise you, it will be the most lifelike looking spinnerbait you have ever thrown."
Todd does some mail order business but he prefers to market through dealers. He aims to have dealers in all 50 states and has just about made that goal. Some of the dealers that carry Glamour Shad spinnerbaits and buzzbaits are Greentop, Bobcats, and Aquia Creek Outfitters – and among the biggest is Dashiells in Suffolk. Retail prices range $4.99-5.99. You can contact Todd at Glamour Shad by e-mail, web, or by calling him.
