The South Hill Chamber of Commerce is a proud
sponsor-partner with the Virginia BASS Federation. Since the mid-80’s, the South
Hill Chamber of Commerce has hosted many Virginia BASS Federation events and the
chapter team tournaments are a fixture at Buggs Island on the first and third
weekend in May each year. During this time in May, South Hill shows off its
hospitality to Virginia’s finest anglers. The nearly 300 businesses and professionals that make up the membership of the South Hill Chamber of Commerce would like you to visit the are as often as possible. Anglers can check out what is going on in South Hill by visiting their website at www.southhillchamber.com. The website shows South Hill has a whole lot more to offer than just fishing. The South Hill folks love Lake Gaston and Buggs Island (Kerr Lake) for the fishing and recreation but they also want everyone to be aware of their stores, fine dining, museums, parks and so much more that goes into making South Hill a great place to bring the family when you come in to town for a tournament. |
Most anglers probably are not aware of the three museums located downtown in the old train depot building. The front of the depot building houses the offices of the South Hill Chamber of Commerce. The side entrance will bring you into the tourist information center that is open 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. 7 days a week. Not only can you find more information about South Hill and Virginia but your wife may have an interest in the 550+ dolls in the Virginia S. Evans Doll Museum. Take a ride down the tracks in the Model Train Museum and visit with some of Virginia’s most special wild life in the Wild Life Exhibit. You can even see the big red caboose outside next to the depot. Admission is free but donations are gladly accepted.
The Tobacco Farm Life of Virginia is just a block up the street featuring life on the tobacco farm in Southside Virginia. The Tobacco Farm Life Museum of Virginia is open Wednesday through Saturday from 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. Once again, admission is free.
South Hill has wonderful motels and restaurants, along with a variety of shopping to make your stay enjoyable and fun. The South Hill Chamber of Commerce offers to you the best source of information and recommendations for everything from lodging to entertainment in the South Hill area. If you would like a free Lake Country Visitor’s and Newcomers Magazine, log on to www.southhillchamber.com and click the “Vacation Planner” button and they will send you our new 2002 edition.
The South Hill Chamber of Commerce discovered many years ago the significance of tourism and tournament fishing to the economy of their area. They appreciate your visits and we welcome you to come and explore and discover just how great your next fishing and vacation experience can be in “Tournament Town” – South Hill, Virginia.
